Veterinary Hospice Services

Thanks to modern technologies and portable equipment, there is no reason that a high quality of life cannot be provided for a terminally ill pet within the comfort of home. Gentle Journey provides the training, equipment, and regular veterinary visits needed for veterinary hospice to be successful.

The services provided include:

Hospice care follows a series of steps so that nothing is missed. The steps include a review of your regular veterinarian's medical records, an initial home visit and examination of your pet, preparation of a customized care plan designed to meet the needs of you and your pet, and assistance as needed for you to implement the plan, including frequent followup veterinary visits to update the plan based on the changing needs of you and your pet. At every step of the way, options are discussed in the privacy of your own home.

End-of-life Services

Gentle Journey is available for in-home euthanasia of pets regardless of their participation in hospice. Recognizing the difficulty of this decision and the special needs of individual pets and owners, scheduling is kept flexible and includes evenings and weekends. Whenever possible, 24-hour notice is recommended. After death, when home burial is not an option, Gentle Journey will transport your pet to North Boros Veterinary Hospital for cremation. You may choose either a private or a communal cremation. For private cremations, personal home delivery of your pet's ashes is standard and you may choose from a variety of cremation urns and vessels. Other aftercare arrangements are also supported.
